Review: The Sun Is Also a Star

Image
The Sun Is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon My rating: 3 of 5 stars 3.5/5 stars. I found Natasha EXTREMELY ANNOYING at the beginning. Everything about these two had me like: WOW. OKAY. YOU'RE SPECIAL SNOWFLAKES. YOU'RE ALTERNATIVE. CONGRATS. This is a pretentious piece of shit. Like all of John Green's books SQUARED. I did appreciate the diversity by the end of it, and I was really satisfied with the ending. It reminded me of Eleanor & Park . I had 0 expectations when I started this book. I'd seen it on my feed, and I saw the audiobook was available from my library. View all my reviews

Review: Queen of Shadows

Image
Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas My rating: 5 of 5 stars Read more bookish goodness on my book blog: about a girl SECOND TIME READING: Rating change: it has now been bumped up to 5/5 stars. This book was amazing. Not saying the other's weren't; but this was almost on the same level as ACOMAF. Sarah was on FIRE when she wrote these two books. They made me so giddy BUT ALSO MADE ME SUFFER A HECK OF A LOT OH MY GOD . This book was so interesting!!! Order of SJM's books (Fave to least-fave; so far): 1. A Court of Mist and Fury 2. Queen of Shadows 3. Heir of Fire 4. A Court of Wings and Ruin 5. A Court of Thorns and Roses 6. Crown of Midnight 7. Throne of Glass NOT THAT I HATED the last few... I'd practically rate them all near 5/5 stars. But the top two especially really... blow it out of the park. At least for me. Sarah's books are one of the rare exceptions where the sequels just get better and better. Although I could rave a

Review: The Raven King

Image
The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater My rating: 3 of 5 stars What?!? Sidenote: I am a Henrysexual. Star of the book: Henry. WHY WASN'T HE IN THIS BEFORE?????????? WHY JUST THE LAST BOOK?????????????????????????? After finishing this series: I'm 50% going wait, that's it? and 50% like but nothing is REALLY concluded??? I feel the need to say: I didn't comprehend like 60% of this book. I know it's because as beautiful as Maggie writes; I simply do not read it with a 'flow'. I would start thinking her books' plots are leading to Point A, while Maggie really meant for the whole plot to be about Point B. It's a confusing thing for me to explain, sorry I can't explain it further. What I'm saying is... do you guys ever read an author's writing, and not have the slightest idea what is going on? It's like you accidentally skipped 10 pages. That's how it feels for me, at least for Maggie's writing. I

Review: Blue Lily, Lily Blue

Image
Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater My rating: 3 of 5 stars A solid 3/5 stars. Meh? I don't know if it was because I was more in the mood for Queen of Shadows , but I didn't LOVE this book. Which is a massive bummer. I really enjoyed the first two books! I don't know how this one didn't grab me? I loved small details, but for the most part I didn't understand what was going on. I found it hard to follow. This could just be me going through a depressive episodes: so if I reread it and love it, I wouldn't be surprised. But right now: I felt no appreciation for this book (aside for the teeniest moments Gansey and Blue shared-- the whole drama with psycho Greenmantle and his wife ?????????????????? NEVER, EVER WANT TO READ THAT AGAIN. I WAS BORED. ) I wish I enjoyed this book. I'm onto The Raven King , but only because it's due ASAP to my library and I don't want to drag this on. Review: Heir of Fire

Image
Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas My rating: 4 of 5 stars Read more reviews on my book blog: about a girl SECOND TIME READING: Just a heads up: my opinion of this book has totally changed this time 'round. I LOVED THIS BOOK. Me, finishing the book; my feelings: Rating change: 3 stars to 4 stars. What made me change my rating: MAJOR POINT: I read it slowly this time. I didn't rush like the first time I read this book. I was such a dick when I read this book (initially). I'm going to add some annotations to my first review (below). Enjoy me punching the shit out of past-me. I hate past-me. I was an asshole. I'M SORRY SARAH, ILYSM. PLS FORGIVE MY IGNORANT, UNAPPRECIATIVE, PREVIOUSLY-FAE-HATING ASS. I actually enjoyed Rowan this time. And Manon and Abraxos. AND THIS IS BECAUSE I ACTUALLY LIKE HIGH FANTASY NOW. Before, I was only reading this for the hype. I loathed high fantasy. This didn't add up to a good review, as you can imagine.

Review: Crown of Midnight

Image
Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas My rating: 4 of 5 stars Read more of my book reviews on my blog!--> thehyperlapse.blogspot.com SECOND TIME READING: Rating change: 3 stars is now 4 stars. New thoughts: I am going to annotate my original review which is at the bottom of this one, because I was an idiot. I hated this book the first time 'round, because I skimmed it. I wasn't into high fantasy last time I read it, and really wasn't a fan of Fae. I only made myself read the series because everybody else did. Rereading this series is now a choice, after LOVING ACOTAR. I have found so far, I still love SJM's other series more... but this book, guys. The first part did drag a little, but part two just BLEW ME AWAY. After I started part two, I couldn't put it down. Before that, it was a bit of a chore for me to actually read this book. I am totally viewing ToG (as a series) in a new and different way-- yay. I am falling in love with th

Review: Ral's Woman

Image
Ral's Woman by Laurann Dohner My rating: 3 of 5 stars Like?? It's typical smut?????? Idk what else to say. I found heaps of typos, but maybe that was just my copy. But it's not the worst! I've been reading way worse recently. View all my reviews

Review: Claimed

Image
Claimed by Evangeline Anderson My rating: 4 of 5 stars Honestly it wasn't even that bad lol I've been reading some of the worst stories rn, bc I'm sick of my Kindle being so full. I am subscribed to BookBub, and they tell me what free deals they have. I asked them to give me YA paranormal romance. But I've learned they took it as: "YA" "paranormal/sci fi" "paranormal/sci fi romance". Which is hilarious. My innocent little mind was NOT prepared the first time I scrolled through one of the free books. This is just like a good, overnight-read fanfiction. Like there's definitely worse out there. It actually grabs a decent plot by the end. Plus the author is actually a pretty kick-ass feminist. There's a few problematic aspects; but GUYS. IT ISN'T COMPLETELY AWFUL. The entire time I was reading this, I kept thinking of Wannabe by the Spice Girls lol. I should be doing my final uni assignment. But I am dete

Review: Alienated

Image
Alienated by Melissa Landers My rating: 4 of 5 stars 4.5/5 alien nebula stars <3 This book started off pretty lame. It seemed predictable. But then it got really damn good. How good? Well I pulled an all-nighter. Yep. I have uni today, and had to wake up at 5:30am, but last night I was about 30% through and knew... I'm giving up sleep tonight for this. This usually never happens to me! The last time that I can remember was when I read Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side . Similar concepts, in a way. If you enjoyed that series; you'll love this! If you can switch vampires for aliens. After you get used to the writing; the plot is so fun, and the Aelyx and Cara ARE SO FREAKING CUTE. Seeing their relationship grow was beautiful <3 I could rave more for this book; but alas, I'm sleep deprived. And I want to read the next book. ASAP. (I downloaded the rest of the series this morning. I'm in for so much fun!!) Please give t

Review: Lady Midnight

Image
Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare My rating: 5 of 5 stars SECOND TIME READING Rating change: 5/5stars down to 4.5/5 stars. Only new comment to make: I didn't connect as well this time with the characters, in the first half. I don't know if it's because I know it gets waaaay better in the latter half, but I didn't enjoy them as much. DON'T GET ME WRONG: I LOVE CASSIE'S BOOKS. FOR NOW AND FOREVER. But after reading SJM, I was used to another style of writing where it's more in depth with fewer characters, and more details on their feelings. This book still contains those aspects-- but in a lighter, less in-depth way. I still am in love with Julian. Oh my. That's all I have to say; The second half was much more enjoyable, and reminded me why I so fiercely adored it last year. I have Lord of Shadows open, ready for me to devour any minute now. I think rereading this book was less enjoyable because it's a mystery, and since
