Review: Empire of Storms

Image
Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas My rating: 4 of 5 stars Read more bookish goodness on my book blog: Cal's YA Reads SECOND TIME READING: (I've added comments to my original piece-of-shit review) Okay so overall, I enjoyed this book. It was on the same level as ACOWAR for me: where I really enjoyed the previous instalment, and it was basically impossible to beat it with the next one, no matter what's going on. STILL BETTER THAN THE FIRST BOOK; but had parts that were a bit boring. Idk what happened. I've been LOVING my rereads of SJM. I've been reeeeally sick for the past 2 weeks, so maybe that's why? I really loved the start and the ending. A lot what happened on the boat was meh. I enjoyed it more than the first time I read it-- but I kept putting it down because I was a bit bored. (Which I hate myself for bc guys I LOVED THE START AND THE ENDING. THAT WAS ......... LIT..... af. I didn't want to put the book down). The ending re

Review: The Siren

The Siren by Kiera Cass My rating: 4 of 5 stars 4/5 stars! I listened to this via audiobook. It was so relaxing and soothing to read. At some points, I found the Ocean a bit too creepy... but that could be the reader's voice. I like this WAY more than The Selection . Some of the dialogue annoyed me, like they could sound their age (over 80) or like a 12 year old girl ("weeeeeee!"). This was a fun book, perfect for those who like quick, light fantasies and a simple insta love :D It was pleasant reading (/listening) but I don't know if I'd physically read it. Listening to it once was enough for me. This book started off really strong, but towards the end (considering the "love" these two shared) seemed to weaken the story. I actually felt more towards The Ocean and Kahlen, which was an insane dynamic. ALSO: I APPRECIATED THE RACIAL DIVERSITY IN THIS BOOK. IT ALSO DISCUSSED DOMESTIC ABUSE AND SEXISM. View all my re

Review: Reborn

Reborn by Addison Cain My rating: 4 of 5 stars YOOOOO WHAT THE FUCK???? This book is so complex. I appreciate it how it approaches rape-culture and abuse, but at the same time-- THE FREAKING ENDING WAS AWFUL. INCONCLUSIVE. ABSOLUTELY ANTICLIMATIC. WHAT A SHIT-SHOW OF AN ENDING. AND IT ENDED AS A CLIFFHANGER. I don't want to spoil this book because I really do think it's something people should read. I don't get why the author used erotic scenes, as most of the time there wasn't a point to them. AND at the end she added a fresh rape scene from new characters. Which was just the icing on the cake. I did not care at all for Svana (the antagonist-- who, by the way, fingered our protag for the hell of it at the end???????????????????? Like wtf?? Could've just had them talking, dude) or Corday. I usually skipped over their scenes. I didn't like that Shepherd (the anti-hero) was barely in it by the end of this book. The final cha

Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout My rating: 5 of 5 stars Read more of my book reviews on my blog!--> thehyperlapse.blogspot.com SECOND TIME READING This was a fun read. Super easy to go along with. I still think I like Book 2 ( Onyx ) even more. I read this as a break from my super-intense ToG binge. But I'm back to that now :) EoS here I come. When I first read this book; I thought it was the hottest thing ever (lol young Cal hadn't found The Hating Game 's Joshua Templeman yet) but this time I was like ?? okaayy. Fine. oOo FIRST TIME READING: I've read and reviewed this book? It's probably my favourite books I've read this year.... and it's all gone... where did it go? View all my reviews
